Sport

Cross-country Running
Cross-country running is a sport where athletes run long distances on different types of terrain including grass, hills and dirt roads. Cross-country running is important for the following reasons: it helps with a child’s physical fitness. it helps with mental health. it provides perseverance, discipline and routine.
Rugby
Rugby
At MVN, we don’t play rugby just to win. Here, between the cheers of teammates, the mud on knees, and the pride in every post-match handshake, lives a deeper purpose – success in every form.
Our rugby field is more than just a place to play – it’s a place to grow. A space where every boy – regardless of size, speed, or experience – has a place to belong and a chance to develop. We approach sport with a heart for inclusivity and a vision for holistic growth. We don’t just see the player – we see the young man in the making.
Our boys are taught that real strength doesn’t lie only in tackles or tries, but in the courage to rise after a fall. In the character shown when the scoreboard isn’t in your favour. In recognising that every small success – whether it’s a well-timed pass or the bravery to keep going – is a stepping stone toward something greater.
Every practice, every match, every bit of progress on and off the field helps us shape each boy into his own success story. Because here at MVN, we believe that when you look back one day, it shouldn’t just be the points you remember – it should be the growth, the brotherhood, and the pride in your own heart.

Netball at Laerskool Marietjie van Niekerk is much more than just a sport – it’s a valuable opportunity for girls to grow, learn, and develop themselves. Through structured practices, coaching, and team activities, we help children become physically stronger, build self-confidence, and learn important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. We offer support at every level – from basic skill development for beginners to advanced techniques for more experienced players. Every child gets the chance to be involved, to be proud of their progress, and to be part of a team where they are valued and encouraged.

Cricket
This isn’t just a sport – it’s a battlefield. A war of wits, patience, precision, and power. When a player steps onto the pitch, they enter with determination, loyalty to the team, and the will to conquer. Every match is a tactical war. The bowler is the sniper, the fielders are the defensive force, and the batter is the last line of attack and defence – standing firm between victory and defeat. Decisions are made in seconds. Mistakes are punished. And yet, under this pressure, learners grow in confidence, leadership, and sportsmanship.
Cricket teaches more than just skill – it builds resilience, respect for your team and your opponents, and the value of every role, no matter how small. We don’t just shape players – we raise warriors. At our school, cricket is more than a game. It’s where heroes are born.

On the hockey fields of MVN, you hear more than just the crack of a stick on a ball. You hear laughter, encouragement, and the rhythm of teammates growing – not just as players, but as people.
We are committed to giving every player the opportunity to reach their full potential. Here, every child has the space to learn, to laugh, to work hard – and most importantly, to enjoy the game. Hockey is more than a sport; it’s a journey of confidence, connection, and fun.
With a positive attitude and respect for one another, every practice and match becomes a lesson in teamwork and character. We believe that good sportsmanship and hard work are the keys to true success – not just on the field, but far beyond it.
At MVN, hockey is where values are shaped, friendships are forged, and every player is given the chance to write their own story – one filled with pride, perseverance, and joy.

Chess is more than just a game – it’s a powerful tool for developing focus, patience, discipline, and strategic thinking. These are life skills that benefit learners in the classroom and beyond.
At our school, we see chess as a meaningful way to nurture critical thinking and decision-making. Learners are encouraged to plan ahead, adapt to challenges, and take responsibility for their choices – lessons that stretch far beyond the chessboard.
Chess is inclusive and accessible – every child, regardless of experience, can benefit and find joy in the game. It also promotes a healthy balance between competition and collaboration.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced player, every learner has the opportunity to grow, learn, and have fun through chess.

Choir
In a little corner of our school, where sunbeams dance through windows and time slows to listen, lives a magical gathering known as the Choir. Here, voices don’t simply sing—they soar, shimmer, and weave stories into the air.
Led by a guiding hand, like a conductor with a wand, our choir transforms ordinary days into musical adventures. Each note becomes a spark, and each harmony a spell—binding hearts, lifting spirits, and inviting everyone who hears to dream just a little bigger.
At our school, the choir isn’t just an activity—it’s a place where laughter echoes between warm-up scales, where friendships bloom between stanzas, and where shy whispers turn into confident melodies. We sing to celebrate, to comfort, to inspire. Whether on stage in shining uniforms or tucked away in cozy rehearsals, our voices rise as one—bold and beautiful, like the chorus of a fairytale kingdom.
Here, every song is a journey. Every performance, a magical moment. And every singer? A storyteller with music in their soul.
Come, listen closely… the adventure has already begun.

Land service
Love for God | Love for your fellow human | Love for work | Love for nature
These four pillars of Land Service are our focus. Our heartfelt desire is to help develop young people so that they will take responsibility with confidence and initiative, and make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
It’s a journey of discovery where young people learn and grow through a variety of activities—out in nature.
Support services
Caring Aunties
It is a privilege to announce that the school has appointed two qualified “caring aunties” as part of our support program.
From now on, all new learners will be visited by the “caring aunties” to ensure they are adjusting well, feeling happy, and to see where assistance may be needed.
Teachers and staff will also be able to refer any learner who requires emotional support to the “caring aunties” at a given time, with the parents’ consent.
